Counselling Services in the University

Mr Colin Lago - Director, Sheffield University Counselling Service Colin Lago is Director of the Counselling Service at the University of Sheffield. A Fellow of BACP, former Chair of the Association for Student Counselling and founder member of the RACE Committee of BACP, he has over twenty years experience as a counsellor in HE and has published widely on counselling, particularly around transcultural concerns. He will speak about ways forward for university counselling services with particular emphasis on making them accessible and acceptable.

Ms Rachael Tooth - Former NUS Wales Women’s Officer Rachael Tooth currently works for the Equal Opportunities Commission. Prior to this she was Women's Officer for the National Union of Students, Wales, for two years where she was responsible for the implementation of the Student Mental Health Campaign. She has spoken a number of times on de-stigmatising mental distress and making services user-led and accessible and sits on the executive of Cardiff Mind. In addition to her professional interest in mental health Rachael has been a service user since she was 17 taking a year out of her degree in 1999 after being diagnosed with manic depression.
