Psychiatry & University Counselling

Dr Mike Hobbs - Royal College of Psychiatrists Our first speaker will be Dr. Mike Hobbs, consultant psychiatrist and psychotherapist in Oxford. For four years Dr. Hobbs was medical consultant to the Oxford University Counselling Service and he still serves on its management committee. He is chair of the Royal College of Psychiatrists' working group on student mental health, which, it is hoped, will report in November 2002. He will speak about the issues raised in the Royal College report.

Dr Ravi Rana - Author of Counselling Students Dr Ravi Rana came to university counselling from a background in academic and clinical psychology. She is the author of Counselling Students and co-author of Degrees of Disturbance and was Senior Counsellor at University College London for 12 years. She has recently taken up the post of joint head of the Psychotherapy Department in East London and City Mental Health Trust. She will respond to the College report and discuss the issues of student mental health from an educationalist's perspective.
